Pollock and smoked potatoes at Newman Arms

Pollock and smoked potatoes at Newman Arms

Flaked pollock, smoked mash, toasted buckwheat
Each time I eat at the Newman Arms I’m delighted. This tiny upstairs dining room is way too noisy for me, the tables are crowded, the music loud and yet none of that matters for the food is sublime. Some of the best to be eaten in London at the moment. Matt and his team produce exquisite food from a cupboard. I love it.Newman Arms

Calves Liver and Black Bacon at Bellanger
When Chris Corbin and Jeremy King announced they were opening a mere 200 steps from my door it would be right to say I was pleased. I now eat there most weeks. The food is very good the service perfection. I love the charm of the atmosphere and the certainty that you will enjoy yourself. I also love that they love me. Bellanger

Sashimi at Flash and buns

Sashimi set at Flesh and Buns
A visit to the Donmar theatre is always proceeded by an early supper here, in the basement next to the theatre. Part of Ross Shonhan’s Bone Daddies group, I always have the sashimi and then wings, fried stuff and buns. And wine. Enough to nourish me through the grimmest play. Flesh and Buns

Chard and potato stew at home

Chard and potato stew at home

Potato and chard stew from Basque by Jose Pizarro  I run a cookbook club each month at the Drapers Arms and this month the lovely Jose Pizarro talked to us about his life, his food and his new book Basque. I made this and a couple of other dishes, all delicious and all that worked as written. Not by any means a given. It’s a lovey book and he is a lovely man. Basque

Zabaglione at Sartoria

Zabaglione at Sartoria

Zabaglione at Sartoria  I was a huge fan of Francesco Mazzei at L’Anima though less of a fan of the uncomfortable bar stools but now he is in the West End and at Sartoria not only the bar stools but the whole restaurant is a delight. I popped in for lobster pasta and then shared this zabaglione with my husband. Served with wafter thin cantuccini it’s a cloud of eggy perfection.

Spring vegetables at Grain Store

Spring vegetables at Grain Store

Spring feast with Bruno Loubet and Shaun Hill Mondays are often days when restaurants close and give their hard working staff a day off.No wonder then that there were so many chefs at Grain Store last Monday to eat the food of these two legendary chefs. Shaun was making an all too rare visit to London whilst Bruno was cooking on home turf. Lovely, lovely food, lovely men.Come back soon. ShaunHill

Rhubarb and crumble ice at Vico

Rhubarb and crumble ice at Vico

Rhubarb Crumble ice cream from Gelupo at Vico  In the interval of the play at the Donmar I went to get ice creams for us. An embarrassed usherette offered me minute tubs for £4.50 each! My puritan soul would not allow for such a thing so walking to the bus stop we detoured into Vico at Cambridge Circus and bought cones of joy: mine rhubarb crumble, his burnt sugar £3 each. Happiness restored
